ABSTRACT

Most aspects of development are dependent or guided by visual system. Defect of visual perception can cause secondary mental retardation in cerebral palsy children with normal intelligence. So, identifying the effective factors on visual perceptual skills and early treatment of them in these children can prevent learning disorders, slowing the treatment process and secondary problems. This study was designed to compare the effect of chronological age, strabismus and sex factors on visual perceptual quotient. In this cross-sectional study, 120 spastic cerebral palsy children with equal numbers of strabismal/non-strabismal disorder [age 8-10 years] were randomly selected from exceptional schools of educational departments and rehabilitation clinics of Tehran and were evaluated with the test of visual perceptual skill-revised [TVPS-R]. The results showed that the scores of visual perceptual quotient [P<0.0001] and visual perceptual age were significantly different among 8 to 10 years old children [P<0.0001]. There was no significant difference in visual perceptual quotient between two sexes [P=0.76] and that non-strabismal children had greater visual perceptual quotient compared to strabismal one [P<0.0001]. It can be concluded that age and strabismus have a significant effect on visual perceptual quotient, while this is not the case on sex

ABSTRACT

Anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] damage is the most common injury of knee. It can change gait kinematics. Neuromuscular training and perturbation treatment programs are supposed to be effective in modifying gait kinematics of patients with ACL damage. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of modified perturbation training protocol on gait kinematics in ACL deficient patients. Ten professional male athletes, between 18 and 45 years, with at least 6 and at most 24 months history of unilateral ACL rupture were enrolled in the study. Kinematics data of hip, knee and ankle joints were recorded using electrogoniameter device during walking before and after ten sessions of perturbation training. IKDC Subjective and Lysholm questionnaires scores were analyzed before and after training. IKDC Subjective and Lysholm questionnaires scores significantly improved after treatment [P=0.005]. Hip range of motion [P=0.02], peak flexion of hip [P=0.02], hip angle at stance phase [P=0.02] and peak dorsiflexion of ankle [P=0.03] were significantly increased after training. Perturbation training probably affects neuromuscular control and modifies feed-forward control, thus it can improve compensatory patterns of ACL deficient patients during gait. ACL deficient patients may adapt their problem with further use of hip joint and increasing hip flexion

ABSTRACT

Human serum albumin [HAS] is the major protein component of human plasma. It plays a very important role in transporting of macro molecules and maintaining the normal osmolarity. It is used as a therapeutical protein in patients with hypoalbuminemia and acute bleeding and burning. Albumin consumption in the world is about 500 ton/year. The aim of this research is to study the production of rHSA in shake flask culture by Hansenula polymorpha. H. polymorpha was used for the production of recombinant human serum albumin [rHSA] in several of shake flask culturing; expression of rHSA was investigated relating several parameters affecting the expression of HSA. To optimize the secretory expression of rHSA under the control of FMD promoter in H polymorpha RB-11 incubation time, culture media temperature and protease inhibitors were analyzed. This study not only established production of rHSA in yeast but also analyzed the correlation between affecting parameters and the level of HSA expression. Comparison of the HSA levels in the culture supernatants showed that the highest HSA yield was 17.6mg/l. The research shows that among three different temperatures [25°C,30°C and 37°C] 37°C was the best temperature and amongst three different incubation times [24h,48h and 72h] 48h was the optimum time and YNB 1% glycerol with buffer was the best derepression medium in comparison with others. Using these optimized conditions, stable production of rHSA of around 17.6mg/l was achieved. Our results suggest that affecting experssion factors improved in this study are suitable for production of recombinant albumin
